SB derives from the Polish "Szkolno-Bojowy" which translates as "Training-Combat".

  Probably in 1964 after the disbandment of 59th Training-Combat Aviation Regiment in Biala Podlaska, the aircraft was converted to a two seat version SBLim-1 (equivalent to the Russian MiG-15UTI).   Sometime during the period 09JAN70 to 30MAY70, the aircraft was fitted with the rear fuselage and tail from Lim-2 s/n 1B-01221 thus becoming a SBLim-2 (for which there is no Russian equivalent).   "After twelve months of serious work to repair the badly dented Lim-2 fuselage, fin, rudder and tailplane" the fuselage was moved from CJFM to the TAFE hangar at Parafield to be used as a training aid by TAFE students and to provide room at CJFM for the restoration of the wings.
