DC-3 PH-ALW Wielewaal during a refuelling stop at either Rangoon or Akyab in Burma in 1938. The photo was taken by Frank Sims who worked for the Burmah Oil Company which refuelled most of the aircraft on the run from Europe to the East Indies and Australia until the fall of Singapore. Frank Sims passed away in 1993 and subsequently his family, Ian and Linda, found this photograph amongst their father's possessions. Recognising that the aeroplane survives at QAM, Ian has restored the original photo and kindly donated it to the Queensland Air Museum.
